Kathalijne van Hes

Kathalijne Hes (1970) graduated from the Utrecht School of the Arts (Illustration) in 1998.

In her paintings, she brings mythical creatures to life with powerful, dynamic brushstrokes. The eyes in her animal portraits speak volumes and give her work an almost human emotional resonance. Owls and foxes form a recurring and recognizable signature within her oeuvre.

Inspired by the fantasy world of her youth and her strong connection with nature, Hes works intuitively based on her motto “don’t think, just do.” Her paintings move between figuration and abstraction, inviting the viewer to discover their own stories and emotions.
